As your child progresses through their final year of schooling, this is an important time to begin making decisions and engaging in conversations about their future pathways, beyond Year 12.

Students have a wide range of options available to them, and we are committed to supporting student in finding their preferred pathway aligned to their interests, strengths, and goals.

These options may include:

  • University study (via ATAR or alternative entry pathways)
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) or TAFE courses
  • Apprenticeships and traineeships
  • Employment opportunities (full time work, Defence force etc)

Students have ongoing access to career guidance, pathway planning sessions, and opportunities to explore different post-school options. We encourage students to actively engage in these experiences and seek advice when needed.

Parents and caregivers play a vital role in supporting through this decision-making process. We recommend having open discussions at home about interests, aspirations, and realistic goals, while also exploring the various pathways available. To ensure that your child is ready for this next phase of their pathways, we encourage these conversations to start today. To assist, some conversation starters are listed below to guide and support these conversations:

  • Are there any careers or industries you're curious about?
  • Have you explored different options like university, TAFE, apprenticeships? Or are you planning to step into full-time work?
  • Do you know what subjects or results you might need for those pathways?
  • Would you prefer more hands-on learning or more academic study?
  • What are you feeling most unsure about right now?
  • What information would help you feel more confident in your decision?
  • What's one small step you could take this term to explore your options?

Save the dates!

  • QTAC Student & Parent information evening – Tuesday 18th August @ 5:30pm (F204)
  • Next Steps Interviews – Tuesday 1st September & Wednesday 2nd September, 2026
