Students and staff at Murrumba recently came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, with the whole school enjoying our annual NAIDOC Week celebration and a range of meaningful cultural learning experiences.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to recognise, celebrate and learn about the history, culture, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It highlights the importance of respecting and valuing the world's oldest continuing cultures and strengthening understanding within our communities.

As part of this year's celebrations, we were privileged to welcome special guests from our local First Nations community who generously shared their knowledge, experiences and cultural perspectives with our students. Students enjoyed a captivating cultural performance and participated in an engaging Q&A session with local community support members, providing valuable opportunities for learning and discussion.

Throughout the day, students also took part in a variety of hands-on activities, including Indigenous weaving and bracelet making. These experiences allowed students to develop a deeper appreciation of First Nations cultures while learning traditional skills and practices.

We extend our sincere thanks to our special guests, community members and staff who helped make these experiences so meaningful and educational. Their contributions enriched our students' understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and helped make our NAIDOC Week celebration a memorable success.

We are proud to continue fostering respect, understanding and connection through opportunities such as these and look forward to celebrating NAIDOC Week again next year.
