The Murrumba 12.1 debating team consisting of Charlie- Mei, Namash and Daniel competed in the third round of finals for the Queensland Debating Union competition in week 4. The team have done an outstanding job to make it this far in the finals, against some of the state's best debating schools.
The topic for the debate was 'that we regret Australia's system of compulsory voting' in which we were debating the negative stance of the debate. The team collaborated for the one hour short preparation and constructed a compelling, cohesive and well-thought out case securing themselves the win and eliminating Brisbane Girls Grammar School from the competition.
As a result of this, the team have now successfully made it to the quarter finals of the competition placing them in the top eight schools in the state. This is the furthest any Murrumba team have ever made it in the competition, so the students could be highly commended for the outstanding ability to think quickly on their feet and articulating their cases with professionalism and clarity.
The team will be debating at Brisbane Grammar School next Wednesday night (7th August).
