Program Philosophy
Murrumba State Secondary College offers
talented students a Footballing pathway through their Secondary schooling. Academy
members undertake the Football Academy as a timetabled component of their
studies complementing their quality learning in the core curriculum subjects.
The Football Academy is designed to assist in the development of skilled
students as complete footballers whilst using their passion for the world game
to enhance academic performance and develop the skills needed for a career in
Football.
The Academy provides students with numerous
opportunities to represent the College in both Football and Futsal, as well as
Queensland School Sport representation (District, Metropolitan, State and
National level).
We have a number of affiliations within the football community,
including the Brisbane Roar, Kick International Institute, Football Queensland
Referees, as well as contacts at many local clubs.

MSSC Course Aims
The aim of the Football Academy is to develop
the students into holistic footballers while also emphasising the importance of
succeeding academically and producing exemplary behaviour in all College
activities. The Football Academy achieves its aim by exposing the players to
sessions around, but not limited to, the following topics:
Technique – Striking the ball (short
and long passing, shooting), receiving the ball, 1 v 1 (with and without the
ball) and running with the ball
Match Awareness – Principles of attack,
principles of defence, decision-making, tactical awareness
Match-specific Conditioning – Speed, agility,
coordination, power, muscular endurance, core strength
Mental Preparation – Relevant sports
psychology topics
Rehabilitation – Injury prevention, alternative activities, rehabilitation activities.
VET Information
The course content of the Certificate III in Recreation (Football)
(Course Code: SIS30115) is delivered online by Murrumba SSC staff in
conjunction with Binnacle Training (RTO: 31319). Enrolment in the Certificate
requires an additional fee. This course consists of 19 units of competency
across two years
