It is important to recognise that your secondary school years are a pivotal transition from childhood to adulthood. Junior Secondary (Years 7-9) is an opportunity for students to experience college life and enjoy its diverse range of learning opportunities, while taking on the added responsibility of being a secondary student.
Senior Secondary college life (Years 10-12) allows students the freedom and responsibility to tailor parts of their educational program to meet their own learning and career goals.
The goal of the Guidance Officer is to assist students in gaining self-understanding as a basis for setting constructive life goals which are consistent with one’s abilities, interests and aptitudes. By stretching your limits now, more opportunities will await you in the future.
Guidance Curriculum
Careers and Access Program
Careers information is made available to the whole MSSC community through the college Facebook page and web site. Fortnightly updates about careers and related events will be posted. There is also a career noticeboard located in iServies. A specific career will be highlighted every fortnight, giving students information regarding: education requirements, job prospects, relevant school subjects and pathways to further information. There is also a careers library being set up and maintained within iServices.
The Year 10 careers program is planned and implemented by the Guidance Officer and includes a Careers Day where relevant speakers and industry professionals present to students. The program is designed to give students the information they need to make informed choices during the Senior Education and Training planning process.
The Guidance Officer contributes to the college Access program by leading the implementation of selected curriculum topics.
The Careers and Guidance Matters newsletter provides information on career events, open days, expos, career planning and other local support information. Access the newsletter at the bottom of this page.
