Guidance Officers are employed by the Department of Education to assist students and their families to achieve their best outcomes. Guidance Officers are registered teachers with post-graduate qualifications in mental health and counselling.
Guidance Officers can help students in several different areas:
- Wellness: supporting mental health and providing referrals for young people with ongoing mental health concerns. Discussing healthy body and mind practises with students.
- Academic: subject selection, applying for tertiary courses, improving study skills, managing time, exam preparation and career pathways.
- Complex personal issues: friends, family, personal relationships.
- Case management: Liaise with external support networks such as psychologists, paediatricians and other specialists to develop appropriate school-based supports.
Students and parents are welcome to make appointments with a Guidance Officer by contacting the administration office on (07) 3490 3222 or emailing the relevant year level Guidance Officer.
