Transition Week

During week 9 Murrumba SSC welcomed just over 90 students who will join the College next year in Years 7 and 8.  This was the first of our Transition Weeks where our new students were able to meet key staff members, work with Year 10 Peer Mentors and experience some of the excellent facilities the College has to offer.

Students were met at the gate by Year 10 Peer Mentors and accompanied to the Science Lecture Theatre for their Orientation session.  After a guided tour of the College students made pancakes, created some plastic “Twisties”, got fit in the Sports Centre, participated in chemical experiments and danced.  Many of our friendly Year 7 and Year 8 students joined them for touch football or handball at lunch time and all students finished up the day with a huge smile on their face.  Our team building sessions were well received as students were challenged by a number of group activities that asked them to rely on people they had only just met.

It was evident that many of our 2015 students will have no difficulties in embracing the Core College Values in 2015 simply through the resilience, respect and commitment to their group that they displayed on their first visit to the College.  Thank-you to the staff and Murrumba students who helped make these days a success.  We look forward to seeing all of our new 2015 students for a second round of Transition Days in Term 4.
