Readers Cup

Yesterday was a huge day for our avid readers as they took part in two state wide competitions. Tayla Elliott, Natayla Jones, Zac Simmonds, Keiran Wood and Jacinta Williams represented the College in the year 6 & 7 Readers Cup competition held at Padua College. It was wonderful to be in a hall filled with 30 teams of keen readers from school across North Brisbane, all of whom sat huddled quietly but excitedly discussing 5 books they had read as they tried to remember details to answer the questions. While they didn't win, they acquitted themselves well, particularly Zac and Keiran who stepped in at the last moment to help out.

Then last night we did it all again at Brisbane Boys Grammar when Calais Macdermott, Pallavi Sharan, Mae Grosskopf, Isis Taylor and Eloise Major fronted up in the tough year 8 & 9 competition. These girls are seasoned veterans of this competition, having competed as year 7s and (Calais and Pallavi) as 8s. It was one of the closest competitions I can ever remember and at the end of 5 rounds of tough questions our girls finished in a 3 way tie for 2nd place! A tie breaker question meant they didn't receive the medallions, but they did an amazing job regardless - particularly considering that 3 of them have found time to read while still being involved in the musical at the same time! Also interesting to note we were the only state school in the top 5!
