Murrumba Spanish Students Reign Supreme at University Competition

Murrumba SSC opened its doors in 2012 with one of its core commitments being to excellence in the study of languages. The initial language for our languages curriculum has been Spanish. In the first official foray into language competitions, a group of 12 Murrumba SSC students recently competed in a competition hosted by the University of Sunshine Coast. This competition was attended by schools and colleges with significantly more years of development in their programs. There were 12 prizes in total on offer and Murrumba SSC managed to win 8 of them! Results were as follows:

Year 7 category – Set speech

  • Tyson McNeil – first place
  • Grace Alexander and Lachlan Von Dohren, both received highly commended

Year 8 Category- Set Speech

  • Tara Kemp- First Place
  • Molly Tobler- 2nd place

Year 9 Set Speech

  • Cordel Hamilton- Highly Commended

Year 9 – Middle Open Speech

  • Meggy Rus – 2nd Place

Year 10 Open Speech

  • Langi Lolotonga - 3rd place

This was an outstanding result and certainly sent a very clear message about the quality of students, teachers and programs at Murrumba. Congratulations to all involved and to our wonderful teachers Touria Fernandez and Lina Alzate who accompanied the students. Thanks also to the parents involved for their support and transport.
