Laptop (BYOD) Program Update

14/08/2014

I am very pleased to report that most of the hurdles around finalising the Bring Your Own Device programs have been removed. We have been piloting the program with a few classes and the results have been pleasing. The new joining script is running perfectly and permits a privately owned device with a wireless connection to join the College domain and locate printers and home drives. This means that students can store, print and access files via our College network as well as on their own devices. The final chess piece for the complete package is the inclusion of Microsoft Office 365 as an Education Queensland funded package. The establishment of data storage protocols and licensing is in the final stages and we hope to have this available by the commencement of 2015.

Year 7 2015 students will commence their time at Murrumba with the opportunity to bring their own iPad. This device will be utilised throughout their Junior Secondary phase of study. Year 9 and 10 (2015) students who have been waiting to commence their BYOD programs will also have the opportunity to commence this for the start of 2015 although; as they are approaching the senior phase of their study we will be recommending a laptop rather than a tablet. There will be information about devices and the required process for facilitating access to the BYOD program, disseminated to all current Year 8 and 9 students before the end of Term 3 this year.
