Delivering a Flying Start for Queensland students

20/01/2012
Queensland’s education system is changing for the better. There are a number of important reforms which will affect your children over the coming years. These changes are part of a series of improvements over the past decade, which will benefit students at all Queensland schools.

Here are some of the highlights of the initiatives which form part of the Flying Start education reforms:
  • Prep is now recognised as the first year of schooling in Queensland.
  • Year 7 will become part of high schools in Queensland by 2015.
  • Junior Secondary for Years 8 and 9 will be introduced to all state high schools from 2013. Year 7 will join Junior Secondary from 2015.
  • A new standards authority will commence in 2013 to ensure that our school shares the same standards as every other state and non-state school in Queensland

Our school has been chosen to pilot Year 7 in a secondary setting prior to the statewide move. As one of 20 pilot schools selected across the state, we began welcoming Year 7 students in 2012.

There are many decisions to be made at a local level over the coming years, which we invite our students, their families, teachers and other members of our community to become involved.
