Workshop facilitator Travis Dowling from Queensland Theatre Company ran an Epic Theatre workshop with Year 11 Drama students on Monday 1st August. Students were engaged in learning about political theatre and how they can use fables to tell political stories. Students had ‘ah ha’ moments when they created freeze frames for a political topic- Travis talked about Gestus and how it adds a political context to the frame. From this valuable experience students now have a deeper knowledge of Brechtian theatre and what his theories and practices set out to achieve- to teach.

Children’s theatre was the first unit our year 10 Drama students created. For 3 consecutive years, the year 10’s ran workshops with Undurba students to teach them about performance and the craft of acting. From these workshops, the year 10 students then devised an interactive performance for the year 2 students where they felt as though they were a part of the performance. This unit challenged our Drama students as it was the first time that they were creating and performing for a live audience- what a great job they did with costumes and set! Amazing.
