Debating Successes

25/05/2017
Our MSSC debaters have had a number of successes in the past few weeks. At the end of last term, the Year 12 team made it 2 from 2 for the 2017 competition. Given the increased workload of their final year of high school, it is pleasing to see our Year 12 team compete so successfully.

At the start of this term our Year 8 debaters posted their first win of the competition. This was a great confidence boost to them in only their 2nd competitive debate.

This week, our Year 9 team scored a resounding win by 6 points against Padua College. This was a short prep debate which meant the topic was released to the team only 1 hour before the debate began. They had to prepare their case without help from devices, notes or coaches, so the pressure was on! Ainsley, Narise, Frances and Katelyn prepared very strong arguments and successfully unravelled the opposition’s case. This debate clearly showed how successfully the team have developed their skills through their weekly debate training.

All of our debaters, including our Year 7 team who are yet to compete, invest a great deal of time and effort to train, prepare and practise their cases. Their dedication is to be commended and we congratulate all debaters on their excellent efforts
