Bill Turner Cup

On Friday 13th of May, the Murrumba SSC football teams travelled to Aspley SHS to compete in the round robin section of the Bill Turner Cup. The day consisted of four games with the winning team progressing to the knockout round of the tournament.

The girls' team had an extremely successful day winning all four games in a dominant display scoring thirty eight goals and conceding only one. They started the day with a comprehensive performance beating Sandgate SHS 8-0. Kedron SHS were our next opponents and the girls played some excellent football to outclass the opposition 13-0. After the lunch break we played Aspley SHS who put up some resistance in the first half but the score blew out in the end to finish 8-1. The final game of the day was against Bracken Ridge SHS which we won 9-0. Our next game is against Narangba Valley SHS with the winner progressing to the state quarter finals. Special mention must go to Arihia who played goalkeeper all day despite never playing football before.

The boy’s team had some more difficult contests winning three games and drawing one. They started the day with two tightly contested wins before the lunch break. Following the long break the boys struggled to get going and drew two all with Aspley SHS. This meant that they required a big victory in the final game to progress and they did not disappoint as they played their best game of the day to beat Bracken Ridge SHS 14-0 and progress to the knockout round. Next up is Grace who knocked us out of the competition last year so the boys will be keen to put in a good performance.
