A Career in Fitness

Andrew counting down the last 15 seconds for the students doing a plank walk – it’s not as easy as it looks!!!

This week a TAFE QUEENSLAND Trainer and students visited Murrumba to share important information about studying Fitness and preparing for a career in the industry.

The students who attended indicated on Senior Secondary surveys in Term 1 that this was a career area of interest for them. After researching this industry in the Careers Education Program it was the perfect time to get trainers and industry professionals in to answer any final questions the students had.

The first part of the session involved a detailed description of the activities, programs of study and commitment required to complete a Certificate III, IV or a Diploma. Andrew and Liam then spoke about the realities of work in this industry. Early mornings, training in the rain, establishing a business, advertising, gaining and maintaining clients, developing challenging training plans were all topics that the students heard more about.

Finally, the Murrumba students were let out to experience a complete work out in the circuit training. Andrew explained how the 24 minute session was planned to take into account the different physical levels of participant and also to target upper body, core, legs and cardio. The students worked hard and really pushed to complete the session.

A very big thank you goes to Liz, Desiree, Liam and Andrew for travelling all the way from Southbank to provide such an informative, relevant and challenging session for the Murrumba students.

The students heard information from Andrew about studying Certificate III, IV and the Diploma of Fitness at the Southbank Campus of TAFE QLD.

At the end of the session, Andrew briefed students about being prepared and planning ahead for session. This means that Personal Trainers have to know their clients and their health and fitness goals.
