2nd Annual Cross Country

Students participating in the bushwalking track section of the course.

The 2nd annual  Murrumba SSC Cross Country Carnival was held recently at John Oxley Reserve. The students faced a challenging course which started with one lap around the playing fields. They then entered the forest bushwalking track heading down to the river. After one lap of the boardwalk on the river the students then faced the prospect of heading back up the steep descent of the bushwalking track. To finish the race they had a final lap of the playing fields and headed towards the finish line.

The day started off with a bang with special guest Anthony Griffin, Coach of the Brisbane Broncos, speaking to the students and firing the starting gun for the first race. The day consisted of three races with the year 7s, year 8s and year 9s all competing for a chance to be the age champion and the opportunity to be the a school record holder. The top eight students from each age and gender group will have the opportunity to represent our College at the District trials.

There were some excellent performances on the day and all students should be commended for the effort in each race and their behaviour throughout the entire carnival.

The carnival also provided us with the opportunity to determine an overall champion house. All students that participated in the race received a point for their house and the final house points were:

Place House Points
1st Blackburn 268
2nd Doherty 257
3rd Bragg 228

Mrs Jeffries and the HPE department would like to thank all staff and students for their help in another successful College event.
